26-7-2025 – Galaxy Digital has completed the largest bitcoin transaction in history, selling over 80,000 BTC valued at more than $9 billion for an early cryptocurrency investor, according to a company press release.
The sale represents what Galaxy described as “one of the earliest and most significant exits from the digital asset market,” executed as part of the investor’s estate planning strategy. The transaction involves bitcoin holdings dating back to the cryptocurrency’s earliest years, when tokens could be mined with basic computer equipment and traded for pennies.
The massive liquidation adds to a recent pattern of dormant bitcoin wallets becoming active after years of inactivity. Earlier movements included a separate whale transferring $1.26 billion worth of BTC and another Satoshi-era holder moving over 80,000 BTC valued at $9.5 billion. These transactions have drawn significant attention from market analysts tracking the behavior of bitcoin’s earliest adopters.
