14-6-2025 – Russian authorities in the Republic of Buryatia have uncovered a clandestine cryptocurrency mining operation, ingeniously hidden within a Kamaz truck. The illicit setup, detected during a routine inspection of power lines by the Buryat Energy Company, a subsidiary of Siberian Power Company, was siphoning electricity from a 10-kilovolt line to fuel 95 high-powered mining devices, supported by a mobile substation concealed within the vehicle.
The operation came to light as officials traced irregularities in power consumption, only to find the sophisticated setup nestled in the remote expanse. Yet, the plot thickened as two individuals implicated in the scheme made a swift escape in an SUV, evading police before they could be apprehended. The incident, reported in 2025, marks the sixth case of electricity theft linked to cryptocurrency mining in the region this year alone, according to the Buryat Energy Company.
