26-2-2025 – Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has acquired an additional 135 bitcoins, investing approximately $12.9 million. This latest purchase, announced on 25 February, was executed at an average price of $95,951 per bitcoin, reflecting the firm’s growing confidence in the cryptocurrency’s long-term value.
Metaplanet’s bitcoin reserves have witnessed a substantial expansion over the past year. From holding just 141 BTC in June 2024, the firm increased its stash to 1,761 BTC by the end of that year. Now, with its latest acquisition, its total holdings stand at 2,235 BTC—an aggressive accumulation strategy that underscores its commitment to bitcoin as a core treasury asset.
The company’s shift towards bitcoin-focused treasury operations was formalised in December 2024, marking a significant transition in its investment approach. With an ambitious roadmap ahead, Metaplanet aims to reach 10,000 BTC by the close of 2025, followed by an even bolder target of 21,000 BTC by 2026.
